He is a talented actor known for his dashing good looks. And Henry Cavill looked worlds away from his usual English gentleman appearance in the first look at him in character as Geralt of Rivia for new Netflix drama The Witcher.
The Superman actor, 35, sported flowing icy blonde tresses reminiscent of The Lord of The Rings elf Legolas as he pulled a smouldering look to camera in a short teaser clip shared by Netflix US. Approaching the camera, Henry peered intently as he rocked black liner around his piercing peepers.
Dressed in ornate black robes, the almost unrecognisable star set pulses racing before taking a sultry swig from a hip flask. Henry, best known for his role as the celebrated superhero Superman in the DC Extended Universe movies, will play Geralt, the main character in the popular fantasy universe that’s previously been adapted into a hit video game franchise.
The Witcher is an upcoming eight-episode Netflix adaptation of the bestselling medieval fantasy book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski that was later adapted into a popular video game franchise of the same name released starting in 2007. Henry, best known for his role as the celebrated superhero Superman in the DC Extended Universe movies, will play Geralt, the main character in the popular fantasy universe that’s previously been adapted into a hit video game franchise.
The book and the video game series both center on the protagonist Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a ‘Witcher’ who travels the countryside slaying terrifying beasts.
Although no firm release date has been announced for the upcoming Netflix series, it will reportedly be released in either 2019 or 2020.
As of yet, no other cast members have been publicly revealed. However, as production steadily moves forward, additional names will be revealed in the future. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who’s also helped to helm Marvel’s Daredevil and The West Wing, will serve as the showrunner for the upcoming fantasy series while Alik Sakharov, Charlotte Brändström and Alex Garcia Lopez will all split directing duties between them. ason Brown and Sean Daniel will work as the show’s executive producers while Sneha Koorse, Jenny Klein and Declan de Barra will also collaborate with Hissrich on writing. The official logline for the upcoming series is as follows: ‘Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. ‘But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.’
