Old Thomians Football Club end season on high
The Old Thomians Football Club ended 2018 on a high; following wins in friendly games against both their traditional rivals the Old Royalists Sports Club and the Trinitian Old Boys. The club founded in 2011 by Maheshan Kanakaratne has made steady progress over the years, playing an annual encounter against their rivals for the first time in their 7 years of existence.
Currently playing under the leadership of Shavinda Kolonne, the club is one of the leading teams in the Dehiwela-mount Lavinia Football League, having emerged third in the 2016 edition of the tournament. The team has grown from strength to strength since winning the Bowl competition of the Gotabhaya Rajapakse Challenge Trophy Futsal tournament in 2015, organised by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka. The team has also won silverware in invitational tournaments in the 7-a-side and Futsal formats organised by the Colombo Lions Football Club, one of Sri Lanka’s leading expat clubs.
This year, Yohan Mendis has been a key player for the club with his performances up front and are amongst the leading goal scorers. The current squad comprises mainly former S. Thomas’ College players, with some team members having experience in Division 1 level and others with mercantile and local/ international university level experience.
The club hopes to continue their rich vein of form in 2019 and continue the rapid progress made to date.
