THILAK BRINGS ‘SIHINA MAYA’
Sihina Maya is based on a story revolving around the lifestyle of fisherfolk who are not much spoken about today
Helamuthu Cultural Foundation Chief Thilak Samarasinghe who made an impressive debut with his DVD movie production ‘Kabali Raja’, recently started work on his second DVD film production titled ‘Sihina Maya’. Sihina Maya is scripted and directed by Deepthi Wageesha while the key roles are played by Thushari Wehella, Eric Abeywardana, Chalani Balasuriya, Mahesh Uyanwatte, Rumal, Hansi Devmini, Raji Mendis, Neil Jayasinghe, P. M. Nandakumar, Padma Mendis, Chandana Weerasinghe, Amila Udayanga and others.
Prasanna Kumara (Tasa) will handle the camera. George Senanayake the music direction, Nadeera Wewelwala the make up, Vajira Priyashantha and Mahesh Yapa the art direction, Ajith Kumara the stunts while Chamara is the assistant director. Producer Thilak Samarasinghe said he was glad to start this DVD film project after the success of his first venture ‘Kabali Raja’. “This DVD film ‘Sihina Maya’ carries a different theme and message unlike Kabali Raja which was more a commercial thriller. Sihina Maya is based on a story revolving around the lifestyle of fisherfolk who are not much spoken about in present day creations. This story depicts the reality in their vulnerable lives and how they are exposed to social hazards like drug addiction. I got talented director Deepthi Wageesha to direct this creation. She is very methodical in her work. I am working with a new team this time and I hope this would also become another successful hit,” producer Thilak Samarasinghe said. Directress Deepthi Wageesha said this project was not a mere DVD film but something that went beyond it. “This story comes with a few messages to society and is also a family movie. We use cinema technology in this creation to give the movie feel to the viewers. This story highlights the plight of the fisher families, how they fall prey to heartless money lenders and how vulnerable the youth are. It reflects the chances of even the educated falling prey to the drug menace. I feel this topic is so vast that we cannot touch upon all the aspects in one DVD film. So we plan to go in with a series of at least two or three, to give it the real effect. I am glad to work with producer Thilak Samarasinghe for the first time. He is a passionate arts lover who has a wide knowledge about arts and artistes. I hope we can work as a team to achieve success,” said Deepthi. Popular young generation actress Thushari Wehella who also plays a key role in this creation said she was glad to play a role of a fisher folk member. “Director Deepthi is a seasoned hand in the field. I hope we can do justice to the new production of producer Thilak Samarasinghe.
