Central Bank appoints two new Deputy Governors

-

The Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) yesterday said it appointed S.R. Attygalle and H.A. Karunaratne as Deputy Governors with the concurrence of the finance minister, with effect from October 31, 2018.

Attygalle has over 27 years of service in the Central Bank and prior to the appointment as a Deputy Governor, he held the position of Assistant Governor of the CBSL and has been released to the Finance Ministry to serve as Deputy Secretary to the Treasury.

Attygalle has been appointed as Secretary to the Treasury and the Finance Ministry with effect from October 31, 2018.

He holds a Master of Science Degree in Quantitative Development Economics from the Warwick University, UK and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Science from the University of Colombo.

Attygalle served in the Economic Research Department of the CBSL in different capacities until he was released to the Finance Ministry in 2003. In the Finance Ministry, Attygalle held many positions, including Director General in both the Fiscal Policy and Public Enterprises Departments.

However, on a gross basis, the CBSL holdings of government securities were Rs.67.4 billion on November 2, 2018. The fact that the growth in reserve money has remained subdued shows that the recent OMOS have not had an undue expansionary effect on money supply in the economy,” the CBSL noted.
