WIM’S ‘Women Top 50’ conference on Dec. 4

The ‘Women Top 50’ Profession­al and Career Women Annual Conference 2018, organised by Women in Management (WIM) under the theme ‘Price we pay for success’, will be held on December 4, 2018, at Galle Face Hotel.

The conference will be chaired, addressed and attended by women who have made their mark in the corporate world and will take the stage to share their personal journeys and the challenges to bring to the fore the real-world experience­s of a working woman.

The Women Top 50, a first of its kind to be held in Sri Lanka, will have former Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala, Jetwing Travels Managing Director Shiromal Cooray and SIMDI Group of Companies (Maldives) CEO Dr. Maryam Shakeela as keynote speakers.

Divided into eight sessions, the dialogue aims to appeal to men and women in the corporate world. The sessions, Live with intent: The messy journey of womanhood, #Metoo - Are we safe as women in our workspace? Parenting - If there was an app, Their journey: Having a successful career and being single. Is there an impact? Men in suits - How we see ‘Her’, Second careers for women, The man who is not right and Finding your way and your voice will be addressed by women and men in positions of management from diverse fields of work, including finance, marketing, human resources, logistics, legal and law enforcemen­t and media.

The highlight of the conference will be the all-male session that will provide the man’s perspectiv­e of women at work.

WIM is known for its annual Top 50 Profession­al and Career Women Awards that recognises and rewards women and their achievemen­ts, not only from well-known and listen corporates of Sri Lanka but also women from the grassroots who have shown exceptiona­l qualities of leadership.

Speaking on the Women Top 50 conference, WIM Chairperso­n Dr. Sulochana Segera said, “The Women Top 50 conference will be an important landmark event, as it will be a forum to listen and get inspired by many untold life journeys by women in the workplace and possibly provide the window for corporates to continue the discourse and introduce pertinent policies.”

She added that the conference topics were not the traditiona­l topics usually presented at conference­s.

Leading local personalit­y in the hospitalit­y industry, Jetwing Travels Managing Director Shiromal Cooray said, “This conference will open multiple doors for women in search of their career success.”

Hemas Pharmaceut­ical Managing Director Kasturi Chelleraja Wilson said, “This forum is where 50 unique women, who have 50 unique real stories, come to share it to be able to positively impact the next generation.”

Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana, who is a speaker on ‘How we see her’, said that Sri Lanka Police has 8,500 females, which is 10 percent from the total carder. After 1995 only has the police started recruiting female sub inspectors and after 2009 started recruiting Female Probationa­ry ASPS. There is a possibilit­y to appoint a woman Inspector General of Police in Sri Lanka in 15-20-year period.
