Woman arrested with heroin says Police
A woman (25) had been arrested by a team of Police officers and officers of Kalutara Divisional Anto-narcotic Bureau with 50 grammes of heroin with a street value of Rs 1.5 million using the name of Makandure Madush, the Police said. They said that the suspect had been distributing heroin and was involved in the drug trade done by her fiancé, who was in jail.
The Police said that this was the largest quantity of heroin, seized in the Matugama area.
“Investigations have revealed that heroin was being distributed in Matugama, Dodangoda, Agalawatte, Pelawatte, including Meegahatenna via the Southern Expressway. “this network of drug distribution is conducted by a prison inmate who has been sentenced for drugs and serving his sentence at the Welikada Prison,” a Police Spokesman said.
“The suspect woman has distributed heroin on orders received by her finance in prison using mobile phone cash transaction system,” he said.
The raid was done by the officers of these two units including SI Thilanga Sanjeewa, OIC of Kalutara Law Enforcing Unit and OIC Nuwan Abeysiri of Kalutara Divisional Narcotics Unit on the direction of ASP Kalutara Kapila Premadasa, Matugama (1) Divisional Superintendent of Police Sanjaya Irasinghe SP Kalutara Division Upul Nilmini Ariyaratna, and DIG Ranmal Kodidtuwakku.
