Where did I go wrong, asks outgoing team manager

- BY BIPIN DANI

It is believed that the outgoing Manager of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team Charith Senanayake had a one-on-one discussion with Coach Chandika Hathurusingha, Competent Authority (CA),

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and CEO of SLC before making the decision.

Obviously, the sentiment expressed by SLC where the coaching staff and the senior players appeared to have said that they didn’t want the strict disciplinarian manager to continue for the New Zealand tour did not go down well with Senanayake.

“This victimisation happened to me for the third time. Three days prior to the South Africa tour I was removed from the post,” he said.

In 2013 also, he was removed from the post for backing Mahela Jayawardene over a clarification letter addressed to SLC.

“I was initially informed by a member of the media that I was removed from the forthcoming New Zealand, Australia and South Africa tours as Manager on the first day of the Galle Test. I inquired my status with the CEO on his return from overseas along with the Competent Authority and they confirmed that I was removed as Manager from these tours.”

“The reason given was that the coaching staff and the team couldn’t function due to the lapses in communication which is detrimental to the squad. Thus, on principle I decided to quit. I didn’t want to stay in a place where I am not wanted or if causing any damage to the team I love,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jeryl Woutersz who is the new Team Manager will work with the team till next year’s ICC World Cup, according to CA Kamal Pathamasiri.
