MR accepted the Govt. despite the apparent 2/3 victory for the sake of the country
Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said yesterday Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa took over the government one and half years ahead of the next election as otherwise the country would be in ruins beyond redemption.
The former Defence Secretary expressed his views about the present political situation on Saturday at the ‘Eliya’ meeting held at a reception hall in Kosgama, organized by a group of SLPP supporters led by Avissawella Chief Party organizer Attorney Ravindra Jayasinghe.
People flocked together with us at May Day processions and protest campaigns wanted to form our own government ousting the government then existed. Even professionals, workers, farmers and all were awaiting that change as it was high time to rescue the country from economic crisis, threat for war hero and thwart the threat of new haphazard constitution.
Foreign forces worked to bring Ranil into power at the last election in order to get their agenda worked. This was clearly visible from behaviour of the foreign diplomats clapping in the parliament gallery with the speaker announcing the pass of no confidence move on vote of voice.
He spoke about the possible alienation of assets such as the Mattala Airport and about his plan to sell oil tanks in Trincomalee, State Banks and Colombo and Kankesanthurai ports and highways to the foreigners, and also about the trade conventions non conducive for the development of the country.
He also criticized the government which existed for being a co signatory to the Geneva proposal.
He said the annulment of the constitution making process was a great achievement of the change of government.
He urged the intellectuals and the youth to think about the future of the country and take appropriate actions towards that end.
The Chairman of SLPP Prof.
G.L. Peiris and Ministers Udaya Gammanpila, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Gamini Lokuge were also present.
