NUTA protests against Canadian High Commission­er’s

The National University Teachers’ Associatio­n (NUTA) protested Canadian High commission­er David Mckinnon in writing over his purported interferen­ce in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka.

NUTA’S Co-president Prof. Sisira Siribaddan­a, in his letter to the Canadian envoy, informed that there was a clear violation of Vienna convention here.

Convention. Further, It is not clear to us whether you use social media to express the views of your good office or your personal views,“he said.

Quoting the Vienna convention, he said,”without prejudice to their privileges and immunities, it is the duty of all persons enjoying such privileges and immunities to respect the laws and regulation­s of the receiving State. They also have a duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of that State.

All official business with the receiving State entrusted to the mission by the sending State shall be conducted with or through the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the receiving State or such other Ministry as may be agreed”

We kindly request your good offices to abide by the Vienna Convention and to refrain from interferin­g into internal affairs of our motherland,” he wrote.
