MATARA STUDENT STABBING: MAIN SUSPECT, ANOTHER SURRENDER

The main suspect who stabbed to death an Advanced Level student in Matara was remanded till December 3 by the Matara Magistrate yesterday. He surrendered to court yesterday.
One of the other three suspects, a 17-year-old, surrendered to the Matara ASP Office yesterday over the incident. Police said the Magistrate allowed the Police to record statements from the main suspect.
A 19-year-old student of St. Thomas’ College, Matara was killed after he was stabbed on Saturday afternoon near a private class at Elawaylla Road, Matara. The victim, who was a resident of Mahahenawatte, Naimbala, was preparing for the GCE (A/L) Examination to be held next year. He was assaulted when he was on his way to the private class with two of his friends. A friend of the deceased was also injured and was admitted to the Matara General Hospital for treatment. All the incidents that took place had been recorded in a CCTV camera installed at a shop nearby and all the records relevant to the incident have been taken over by the Police.
The student who stabbed him and his two friends are studying in two leading schools in the Matara Town.
According to the Police, the dispute was that the brother of the deceased had argued with the girlfriend of one of the suspects at the private class a few months ago.
The deceased had informed the suspect not to harass his brother anymore as his brother had been slapped and was threatened several times before.
Police said another suspect involved with the incident, is also to be arrested.
Matara Police is conducting investigations into the incident.
