”Be Well“Festival nourishes mind, body and belly

-

Sunday 11th November saw a brand-new event in the Colombo calendar – The Be Well festival. Led by Cafe Kumbuk, Prana Lounge and Kinetic Studio and the aim was simple; to carefully select 10-12 collaborative vendors in line with their ethos to offer a day of nourishment for mind, body and belly.

Cafe Kumbuk has been in operation for over 3 years now and proudly pioneering sustainable living and eating, the cafe continues to grow from strength to strength and has made a significant impact both locally and internationally.

Throughout the festival, visitors were able to participate in thirty-minute sessions of the classes currently held at Prana Lounge and Kinetic Studio. Adults and children of all ages participated in the program of classes including many varieties of yoga such as ashtanga and vinyasa flow, boxing, abdominal work and TRX (a body weight suspension system class). Trainers and instructors were all available on hand to discuss any questions about their classes to potential participants. The upstairs studio was also available for self-meditation as well as surprise guided meditation sessions throughout the day.

The festival was also able to showcase many of the new treatments available at Prana Lounge, with practitioners available throughout the day to explain the experience with many giving the option for twenty-minute taster sessions. Of the more interesting treatments available were: ● Bio-resonance therapy provides a non-invasive method to help detect toxins in the body through sound waves and can even help identify food allergies. ● Trauma counselling and EDRM (Eye movement desensitizing and reprocessing) is a type of psychotherapy which is available now to help people overcome PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder). ● Tibetan Singing Bowl healing is also now available, these one on one sessions remove negative energy through the vibrations from the bowls, a technique that Buddhists have long used in meditation.

There were plenty of locally made household products to purchase. From house plants, beautiful patterned clothes, beanbags and stationary. The theme of locally sourced and produced was strong. Eco-friendly products such as reusable steel and bamboo straws in a multitude of colours were available - a definite must have for the conscious consumer. Foodies were taken care of with samples of specialty breads such as sourdough, Japanese style natural salad dressings, kithul treacle and a variety of cakes and sweet treats.

Such festivals are useful for people to start their own personal wellness journey while also being an enjoyable day out.
