Media organisations from six countries visit Aluvihare Temple
Vice President of the Indian Journalists’ Association Hemanth Tivari said Sri Lanka had a reputation for being the only country that held a convention of the doctrine and documented it and that it was a result of centuries old Indo –Sri Lanka bi-lateral relations with Sri Lanka.
Addressing a ceremony to welcome a group of representatives of media organizations from six countries who visited the Matale Aluvihara temple, he pointed out that the role of journalists of the two countries were largely instrumental in that friendship.
The welcome ceremony was organised by the Matale branch of the Sri Lanka Press Association.
Mahasangha including the Chief Incumbent of the Aluvihara temple Ven. Dr. Inamaluwe Nandarathana Thera chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the visiting foreign journalists. “It is for the first time in the history that a group of foreign journalists visited the historic Aluvihara temple where the doctrine of the Buddha in Thripitaka that had been held orally by the Buddhist monks, was documented. Journalists from India, Nepal and other Buddhist countries would consider the opportunity afforded them to visit the historic Aluvihara temple, a privilege,” he further said.
President of the Weera Monarawila Keppetipola National Foundation Walter Thenne and representatives of the Sri Lanka Press Association were present at the occasion.
