INAUSPICIOUS START
FOR PREMIER TIER ‘A’ CRICKET TOURNEY
The SLC Premier League Tier ‘A’ Cricket Tournament got off to an inauspicious start as all six matches which commenced yesterday were hampered due to overnight rain. Badureliya CC, taking first lease of the wicket reached 244 for nine wickets in their first innings against the BRC at Maggona.
Subramaniam Anand and Nadeera Nawela both cracked half centuries and were also associated in a valuable 120run stand for the fourth-wicket.
Skipper Milinda Siriwardana made a top score of 70 and Ashan Bandara scored a fighting half century and put on 100 runs for the fifth-wicket to help Saracens SC make 170 for five in their first innings against Colts CC at the Colts Grounds.
A six-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Lakshan Sandakan helped CCC restrict SSC for a modest score of 229 in their first innings.
Meanwhile, Tamil Union ended day one at 31 for two wickets in reply to Chilaw Marians CC’S first innings score of 210.
Moors SC ended with a score of 144 for four wickets in their first innings against Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) CC at the P. Sara Oval.
Only 36 overs of play were possible in the match between NCC and Ragama CC at the NCC Grounds.
