Unbeaten Kandy and CR meet at Nittawela

- BY SHAMZEER JALEEL REFEREE DINKA PEIRIS

Two unbeaten teams in the Inter Club league encounter 2018/19, CR & FC and Kandy SC, will lock horns in one of the most important clashes at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium on December 2 (tomorrow).. Kickoff is scheduled at 4.00 pm.

Kandy though unimpressive in their first two encounters against Air Force and Police got in to peak form when they won against the Army outfit last week-end at Ratmalana. Kandy had complete control in this encounter winning with a bonus point, Army never posing any real threat to pull it off at any moment of the game.

As usual Kandy SC’S strength is with their speedy three quarter line. Ranjan, Dharmapala, Lavanga all at their best. They were unable to play Nigel Ratwatte in the Police game which gave space waiting Arshard Jamaldeen full game.. Full Back of the side, Thilina Wijesinghe has being the pick of the players from Kandy outfit this season. He has found many gaping holes for the Up Country outfit plus his territorial advantage gave Kandy many attacking opportunities which has grounded their opponents. Kandy will miss Anurudha Wilwara who was cited for a high tackle and will be out for two weeks. High tackles and dangerous tackle have been taken very seriously by the World Rugby at present due to the increasing number of injuries for the players. Kandy’s forwards however, need to be more mobile. They were almost humbled by the Cops two weeks back in front of their home supporters at Nittawela. Yakoob Ali, Jason Dissanayake, Sayuru Anthony, Shehan Pathirana and Heshan Kalhara all experienced players to have a good coordination with their three quarter line will give them the edge over the Red Shirts.

CR on the other hand were led by Kavindu Perera who is lightning fast. The former Vidyartha and national sevens sensation has hit the gap and with his speed tough to be stopped. He was well supported by Tharinda Ratwatte who had two outstanding games against the Sailors and CH & FC and took them to wins for the Longdon Place Club. With players such as Omalka Gunaratne, and Reza Rafaideen CR is a tough outfit to be humbled. On form it will be a close encounter between the two rival teams but Kandy hold the edge playing in front of their packed ground at Nittawela.
