RUKSHAN PERERA WINS AN AWARD IN THE US

-

Rukshan Perera, composer, multiinstrumentalist and singer took the PRESIDENT’S

AWARD at the Sri Lanka Foundation Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles on November 18th, 2018. Since 2003, the Sri Lanka Foundation Awards have paid tribute to several Sri Lankan expatriates across the globe to recognise exceptional Sri Lankans for the excellence they’re shown at home and abroad, and Rukshan was awarded this for how he uses his musical talents for humanity! When receiving the award, Rukshan presented a very unique Rotary project he is leading - to teach “Ethics and Values to children through video animated songs”, and build the foundation for a society of good mannered, civic minded, decent people in Sri Lanka.

After earning a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in New York and working for Philip Morris International for two decades as an IT manager, Rukshan took an early retirement to return to Sri Lanka to do humanitarian work using his musical talents. Rukshan is a well sought after composer who has written about 25 songs on important current social issues in Sri Lanka to bring awareness and he performs those songs at his concerts - “Rukshan Perera Live In Concert 9” for the ninth straight year will be held on Jan 13th.

Rukshan is also a trustee of Unity Mission Trust, an organisation that promotes peace and unity through Unity Camps, and the immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan that supports dozens of humanitarian projects.
