Zahira College OBA Qatar Branch affiliates with SL Embassy

Zahira College – Mawanella Old Boys Associatio­n (OBA) Qatar branch was officially awarded affiliatio­n of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Qatar by A.S.P. Liyanage on Sunday at the Embassy premises.

The President of Zahira OBA Qatar, Mohammed Lafir received the official letter of confirmati­on. General Secretary Ahmed Munaf, Asst Treasurer Mifrah Haniffa and Executive Committee member Abdul Malik were also present at the occasion.

Qatar OBA is the first overseas branch of the OBA of Zahira College Mawanella establishe­d in 2013 and operates with nearly 150 members at the moment. Qatar OBA continues to lead by example for the alumni of the College around the world. The affiliatio­n will open new horizons for the OBA to further expand its services to the students, teachers and alumni of the College.

Commenting on this long awaited milestone for the Qatar OBA, Mr. Mohammed Lafir, who is also a Director of the Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha said, “This is a long awaited objective of the Qatar OBA to get the affiliatio­n of the Embassy to work more closely with the Embassy and the community in Qatar at large. We are very much thankful to His Excellency for recognizin­g our efforts in Qatar and in Sri Lanka. We thank him for all the support and guidance that he provides us and also the Stafford Sri Lankan School which is a greatest asset to the community and in particular for our OBA where we utilize the premises for various meetings and activities”(ds)
