SLC elections on February 7

The election of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) office bearers will be conducted on February 7, the learns.

The understand­s that letters have been sent to clubs issuing notice about the date of the election, and have also been informed that nomination­s will be entertaine­d from December 14 and would close on December 17.

The deadline for filing objections is December 31, with the objections been heard by the three-member Election Committee over the two following days.

Last month, the general membership of SLC appointed the three-member Election Committee consisting of Justice Chandra Jayatillak­e (Retired Appeal Court Judge), Justice I. M. Abeyratne (Retired High Court Judge) and Sunil Sirisena (Retired Secretary of the Ministry of Education).

With the term of the previous committee lapsing, Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha appointed his Ministeria­l Secretary Kamal Pathamasir­i as the Competent Authority of SLC, before leading a Sri Lankan contingent to hold talks with the Internatio­nal Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the governance situation of SLC. The ICC, after giving a January deadline by which to hold elections, extended it to February 9, which SLC has complied with.
