Suspect in Dehiwela supermarket heist arrested
The suspect wanted in connection with the theft of Rs.1.3 million from the safe of a supermarket in Dehiwala town was arrested by the Dehiwala police during a raid conducted in the Puttalam area.
During their investigations the police had recovered two motorcycles, a cellular phone purchased by them and the balance Rs.600. 000 from the suspect’s house in Puttalam.
Police said the suspect had been employed as a security guard at the same supermarket and had found employment elsewhere about ten months ago

On the day of the incident the suspect had visited the supermarket a little while before closing time and seen lurking in a corner. After the owners and the managers of the supermarket left the suspect was free to open the two safes with the keys found in the key board and take away the cash collection.
Under interrogation he revealed his involvement in a similar robbery in the Wattala area where he had burgled a supermarket and taken away the cash collection.
