Advertisements need to be monitored

-

We see another regulatory body in addition to a vast number of such bodies.this time it is a regulatory commission to monitor state and private degrees. According to the Higher Education Ministry Secretary the bill will be submitted for Cabinet approval.

But the most important regulatory body we need is to control offending advertisements TV content. No such body is in force. We see many offending advertisements luring kids to force parents to buy sweetened products, which all of us know are unhealthy – but kids don’t know about bad side of sugar.these are targeted at kids but the effectiveness of the product is a far cry from the advertisement (they become super sports stars, etc) and the danger to health is massive. Killing and stabbing scenes are galore.

Sometimes, nudity is displayed on huge bill boards on public roads which are horrifying and distracting motorists. But to whom are we to complain? In India there is advertising authority for people to complain, even for offending TV drama dialogues/scenes. Sinhala Teledrams are another serious threat to children, where foul language is mostly used which are bad words or little children.they learn these words from TVS as they are not used in our modern society. Stabbing and killing scenes are also galore.

It is time that an advertising authority of Sri Lanka is established to safeguard people from offending

Teledramas and advertisements.
