ATTEMPTS TO BRING MADUSH

THWARTED BY UNNECESSAR­Y MEDIA BLITZ: KIRIELLA

Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella charged that the attempts to bring underworld character Makandure Madush and his fellow criminals was thwarted by the unnecessar­y publicity given by the media to his arrest on January 04 by Dubai Police.

He told Daily Mirror that stings like this has to be carried out under extreme secrecy until its successful conclusion. If the secret operation becomes a public domain it will be subject to failure. Therefore, Sri Lanka intelligen­ce services will have to work in extreme secrecy and care to deal with Dubai Police to bring this man back to Sri Lanka and try before our courts.

“No one knew about KP’S arrest until he was brought to Sri Lanka. If there was not this media blitz, we could have brought Madush and his gang to Sri Lanka easily,” Minister Kiriella lamented.

Commenting on the media reports that there was a VIP passport holder among the 25 suspects arrested with Madush, Minister Kiriella said as far as he knew, it was a false informatio­n and added that Dubai Police had not arrested a Sri Lankan with a VIP passport.
