Case against Wimal and 05 others on Feb 22

The case filed against Wimal Weerawansa and five others was postponed for February 25 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratna yesterday.

The Magistrate while postponing the case ordered the police to examine the video footage that was available and to file a report in court on the next call date.

In this case Cinnamon Garden Police had filed a case against Weerawansa and five others for conducting an illegal protest on February 6, 2016 inconvenie­ncing the general public.

The suspects had staged the protest during the visit of the Former United Nations High Commission­er for Human Rights Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne made this order to the police yesterday after considerin­g the amended complaint filed by the police.

The case was filed against Wimal Weerawansa, Roger Seneviratn­e, Jayantha Samaraweer­a, Piyasiri Wijenayake and Mohammed Muzammil of the NFF.

Earlier the police had filed the same case against seven suspects, however as suspect number 07 Chaminda Jayalal was not in his listed address, the preceding Chief Magistrate ordered the police to file an amended complaint against the other six suspects.
