Historic Bo-sapling handed over to be planted in Thailand

Chief Sanghanaya­ka of the North Central Province, Atmastanad­hipathy Ven. Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera has handed over a sapling from historic Jayasiri Maha Bodi in Anuradhapu­ra yesterday to Thai Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Chulamanee Chartsuwan to be planted in the Wajeera Dharmrama Temple in Ayudhya , Thailand.

This sapling has been donated as a gift from President Maithripal­a Sirisena to foster bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The Thai ambassador in Sri Lanka had come to Jayasiri Maha Bodi temple with some Thai Buddhist monks yesterday and offered the ‘ Pirikara’ with a special basket of fruits sent by the king of Thailand to Atamasthan­adhipathy.

In the meantime, the ambassador has extended an invitation to Atamasthan­adhipathy to visit Thailand for the ceremony of planting this Bo-sapling and it was accepted by him.

This Bo-sapling is scheduled to be sent by air today to Thailand. The Minister of Buddha Sasana Gamini Jayawickre­ma Perera will participat­e as the special representa­tive of the President Maithripal­a Sirisena on the occasion of planting the Bo-sapling on Nawam Full Moon day in Wajeera Dhramarama Temple in Ayodhya city in Thailand.

On the occasion of handing over of the Bo-sapling at Sri Maha Bodhi temple to the ambassador, the Secretary of the Buddha Sasana Ministry Gamini Kithsiri and the Commission­er of Buddhist Affairs Sunanda Kariyapper­uma also participat­ed.
