SRI LANKA CRICKET OPENS CRICKET MUSEUM

Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday opened a Cricket Museum displaying its rich history to the world. The museum housed at the SLC Headquarte­rs has in display some of the most significan­t cricketing moments and turning points of Sri Lanka’s epic cricketing journey.

It was declared opened by the Minister of Sports, Harin Fernando while SLC’S Competent Authority (CA) Chulananda Perera, CEO, Ashley De Silva and Chief Operations Officer Jerome Jayaratne were also present during the occasion.

Sri Lanka’s ODI and T20 Captain Lasith Malinga also took part in the opening ceremony.

The Museum has dedicated sections focussing on Sri Lanka’s Test Cricket, One Day and T20I Cricket and also its pre-test era.

Sections are also dedicated to display some of the glorious moments of the Nation’s cricketing history, such as the 1996 World Cup campaign; 2014 T20 World Cup campaign and also the country’s stupendous record in Asia Cup Tournament­s.

A Hall of Fame which displays the names of Sri Lanka’s Test players and past and present captains of all formats is also taking a centre stage at this museum.

The museum will be opened for public viewing daily from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m while schoolchil­dren will be given free entrance, a move aimed at inspiring a new generation of kids to learn and follow the game of cricket.
