Synopsys, Inc. announced it sponsored a unique student exhibition, ‘Expose 2019’, which focuses on serving humanity through electronics.

The exhibition is organised by the University of Moratuwa, one of the leading technological universities in Sri Lanka and serves as a platform to bring together the electronic and telecommunication engineering community, industry and academia of Sri Lanka.

This year, the exhibition kicked off a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the university’s Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Department and highlighted student projects that demonstrated knowledge and skills in solving real-world challenges.

“The University of Moratuwa works with leading organisations worldwide,” said Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Department Head Dr. Nuwan Dayananda.

“We are honoured to receive Synopsys’ support, considering the company’s global leadership position in silicon design and verification, IP integration and application security testing. Synopsys’ support of the University of Moratuwa’s initiative of promoting microelectronics in the country raises our profile and helps us attract great talent.”

The exhibition aims at exposing the talents and expertise of university students and raising awareness about the importance of strengthening ties between academia, industry and government, to develop the local market.

The event highlighted more than 30 FPGA and other engineering projects in the fields of robotics, augmented reality and secure cyberspace, automotive vehicles, alternative energy sources, biomedical engineering, ecosystem preservation, agriculture, health and personalized learning.

It attracted the attention of the business community, investors and government representatives, including those from the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka and other agencies. The exhibition also promotes engineering among the youth culture, providing high school students an opportunity to present at the event on new trends in electronics.

“This exhibition enables students to obtain significant industry insights and valuable exposure to nextgeneration electronics and innovative technologies, promoting a knowledgebased society in Sri Lanka,” said Synopsys Sri Lanka R&D Director Farazy Fahmy.

“Supporting this University of Moratuwa initiative helps us bridge the industry academia gap and advances our mission to foster the next generation of technologists,” further added Fahmy.

“As the sole EDA company in Sri Lanka, our mission is building competency in IC design and verification technologies to enable the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in the country,” said Synopsys South Asia Group Vice President and Managing Director Dr. Pradip K. Dutta.

“Supporting this University of Moratuwa initiative is a step in that direction. We aim at nurturing relationships with academia across Sri Lanka by providing access to state-ofthe-art tools and technology that drive innovation in EDA, IP and application security testing,” Dutta added.
