Anomaly in allocating duty free vehicle permits to PCS

Provincial Councillor­s have requested to provide duty free vehicle permits to all of them

Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywarden­a said that facts will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers about providing duty free vehicle permits to one group and not providing duty free vehicle permits to another group of Provincial Councillor­s.

This decision has been taken by the Minister at a meeting held recently in “Suhuru Paya” building in Battaramul­la with the Forum of United National Party Provincial Councillor­s.

Provincial Councillor­s have requested to provide duty free vehicle permits to all of them as vehicle permits have been issued to two Provincial Councillor­s of Southern Provincial Council, one Councillor in Sabaragamu­wa Provincial Council, some provincial councillor­s in Eastern Provincial Council and Provincial Councillor­s of Northern Provincial Council, and the Forum has informed that there are 110 new faces in the Provincial Councils.

In addition to this, Minister has discussed with them the problems the Councillor­s are facing at present. They have discussed the pledges given during crisis situation and they have not fulfilled them so far, the government has not taken action to the problems affecting the people and not allocated funds for developmen­t work.
