CWC comes with new collective agreement with Employers Federation

The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) has come out with a new collective agreement with the Employer’s Federation of Ceylon (EFC) which comprises new aspects.

CWC Assistant Secretary Barathshan Arulsamy told journalist­s that the new collective agreement comprises new area which is called dispute resolution mechanism. “This will comprise both trade union and employer representa­tion. “We did not have a dispute resolution mechanism earlier but we included this in the last collective agreement signed,” Arulsamy said.

He said as per the new collective agreement there is another committee appointed. This he said is called Estate Working Committee. This comprises the women leader of the estate, youth leader and the leader of the estate workers. Mr. Arulsamy says the estate working committee has a better say. In addition he said the new collective agreements have brought about additional concession­s to the workers. “Significan­t concession­s are the payment of one and a half day’s wages to each worker if he or she works on a Poya Day.

Coming up on the future of CWC, Mr. Arulsamy said the party is planning to plan a membership drive especially to attract the youth and to make the party’s presence felt in all over the country especially in the areas where Tamil Community reside.
