Longing for ‘drug-free’ SL

-

While appreciating President Maithripala Sirisena’s effort to liberate our country from the clutches of the dreaded drug menace, it is so disheartening to note killer cocaine, heroin, cannabis, ice and other unknown but dangerous drugs are being used, peddled and so many are getting caught by the law enforcement body.

However, the most worrying aspect is... still drugs continue to be trafficked into the country and seized in large volumes - mostly in kilos, whereas possession of the lowest volume (in mg) is dealt by law very severely. But still the people are finding it difficult to find the answers that from where and how do these massive volumes of contraband are making their way into the country? It looks so mysterious to all.

Though the most feared drug lords had been apprehended in Dubai last month, the Police Narcotics Division had seized the largest haul of cocaine (294kg) a few days ago.what does it mean? Still the ‘sharks and whales’ are roaming freely here in Sri Lanka doing their ‘business successfully’ under the nose of the law enforcement authorities. As ordinary citizens, we still have great faith in the President and the local security network and laud their efforts to halt this menace.all that the people need is to safeguard their innocent children who are the key to the country’s future. We urge the President to re-impose the death penalty to punish the drug traffickers without discrimination to teach the other ‘potential’ traffickers/peddlers a lesson. GUARDIAN
