Baby Shower Rules

-

Baby showers are a popular trend nowadays. A baby shower is a way to celebrate the pending or recent arrival of a child by presenting gifts to the parents. The term ‘shower’ is often used to mean that the expectant mother is showered with gifts. In traditional times showers were gatherings where wisdom and lessons on the art of becoming a mother were passed on. In modern times showers are a joyous gathering where games and fun activities are held and the expectant mother is presented with useful gifts for the arrival of the baby.

DO

have the shower close to the end of pregnancy, usually within the last two months.

Do

make sure that the party is either organised by a close relative or friend.

DO

have the party either at a close relative of the expectant mother’s house or even an outside venue if expecting a large crowd.

DO

have activities that would interest all. Make the guests feel comfortable.

DO

have games that everyone can enjoy. Some examples of games could be ‘Delivery statistics’, guess the baby’s weight or ‘Pin the Binky’ on the baby.

DON’T

have it at the very end of the pregnancy since the expectant mother might not be able to attend.

DON’T

allow your pregnant friend to organize her own baby shower. This time should be as stress free as possible.

DON’T

have the party at the expectants house since you don’t want to clean up after the festivities.

DON’T

have activities that would alienate or embarrass your male guests.

DON’T

expect your pregnant friend to do the limbo.

A baby shower is aptly named to help give the new mother a start to all the paraphernalia that is needed in handling a baby! Some of the most popular as well as useful gifts are bedding for the baby, you can never have too much bedding with the constant nappy changing. When buying baby clothes it would be useful to buy them in various sizes since babies grow quite fast in the first three months. Other useful gifts are baby slings, where the new mum has the freedom of using her hands so therefore she can get about with some light household chores whilst still having baby close to her. These are just some examples to help the new mother out!
