MEP express condolences
Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) expresses its deepest condolences over the death of K. P. Silva, former Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri
Lanka who contributed devotedly to promote the progressive movements in Sri Lanka.
MEP leader Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena in a statement of condolence describes him as a pioneer of the revolutionary labour struggles in the country from the 1940s after joining the Lanka Samasamaja movement. He devoted his entire life to win over the labour rights and later joined the “Revolutionary Samasamaja Party led by late Philip Gunawardena in early 1950s.
He played a major role in the labour struggles organised by the front formed jointly by Communist Party and the revolutionary LSSP, Gunawardena said.
He added that at a latter stage he joined the Communist Party and became the national organiser of the party and was able to show his maturity in all spheres of politics K.P. Silva which helped him together with the knowledge gained at the Karl Marx Political Academy to be offered with the post of the secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka.
“During this period he in intimate closeness with the MEP threw a great challenge against the oppressive and anti democratic actions which emerged from 1977”, the MEP statement said.
