Voters are not idiots

-

Here are some reflections somewhat hilarious at times on what our politicians think. Maybe they think that we could be used as cannon fodder or that we could be taken for a ride easily. By sending home leaders who thought that they were invincible we had proved that we were made of sterner stuff than they thought. In 1956 SWRD changed his religion and the dress and aroused national feelings and rode to power on the back of Buddhist Clergy, native doctors, teachers, farmers and the workers. He alienated the minorities with his Sinhala Only policy and created the ethnic problem. His widow Sirimavo once said that she would give our children the same education as her children but sent them overseas for education. President Jayewardene came to office promising a free and a righteous society and eight pounds grain per family. Chandrika and Mahinda Rajapaksa also came to power promising to abolish the Presidential system. Coming to Yahapalanaya it started slowly on a Volkswagon then got on to the Bond Scam, asbestos and Glyphosate and is now on the reverse gear in all these cases.

The most hilarious is yet to come in the form of violation of the Constitution said to be done after having evaluated legal advice from learned Professors and legal luminaries when the President robbed Ranil in broad daylight to pay MR and anarchy reigned for 51 days.

No one has ventured to evaluate whether the biggest loss to the country is from the Bond Scam or the 51 days of misery and mayhem.
