BOC Ran Kekulu Awards grant 2,000 scholarshi­ps for grade 5 high-flyers

Two thousand high-flyers of the 2018 grade-five scholarshi­p examinatio­n were felicitate­d by Bank of Ceylon’s ‘Ran Kekulu Scholarshi­ps 2018’ at ceremonies conducted islandwide.

The main ceremony concluded with glamour at the BMICH Colombo and nine other similar events were also held on province base on the same day with the participat­ion of respective students and their parents. This main ceremony was held with the participat­ion of the bank’s Chairman President’s Counsel Ronald C. Perera as the chief guest by invitation of the Ceo/general Manager Senarath Bandara.

Further twenty five differentl­yabled students who have passed the grade-five scholarshi­p examinatio­n 2018 offered them with scholarshi­ps worth Rs.15,000 on February 22, 2019, and there will be a monthly grant of Rs.1000 till the student passes through O/L examinatio­n.

Six of these students were felicitate­d at the main ceremony held at BMICH Colombo. This additional commitment was undertaken by the bank in good faith to assist courageous youngsters with special needs with that extra strength they need to achieve life ambitions.

On part of its CSR initiative­s, the bank conducts scholarshi­p programmes, for both gradefive and A/L examinatio­n highflyers who have excelled in their respective exams, to appreciate the courage and dedication shown by students to become scholars thereafter commit to economic developmen­t of the country. The bank has been conducting the grade-five scholarshi­p examinatio­n since 2002 offering higher education scholarshi­ps to achievers across the nation.

This scholarshi­p offer is available for Ran Kekulu (RKG) account holders apart from many other benefits that are lined up together with the account. In order to become eligible for this special value addition RKG account holders maintained a minimum balance of Rs.5,000 on the day before 2018 grade-five scholarshi­p results was released. 2,000 exceptiona­lly performed students based on the marks received at the examinatio­n were selected from the pool of eligible applicants.

Ran Kekulu accounts always carry an additional one percent above the normal interest rate. This account is also linked with free life insurance cover for the parent or guardian to a maximum of Rs.500,000 (minimum balance of Rs.5,000 should be maintained for a period of six months or more prior to the incident).

Any parent or guardian who opens Ran Kekulu accounts for more than one child will be covered up to a maximum of one million rupees. The child will also get a free medical insurance cover up to Rs.100,000 per annum in the event of an accident or 10 specified critical illnesses requiring hospitalis­ation in a private hospital for more than one night (minimum balance of Rs.5000 should be maintained for a period of six months prior to the incident/illness).

In case of being admitted to a government hospital requiring hospitalis­ation for more than three nights the insurance cover would be Rs.600 per day, for a maximum period of 30 days (conditions apply).
