-

The long awaited Floral Arrangement exhibition is on the 30th and 31st of March at The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management.

Members of Shi-en Ikebana & Floral Art Society will display more than fifty compositions from traditional to more modern styles in both Ikebana and Western arrangements. All kinds of (both natural and manmade) materials, will be used in the exhibits along with the fresh flowers. Keeping with the theme “Shades of Nature” visitors no doubt will enjoy a very colourful display of flowers by the members of the Society.

In addition to the exhibition, Harijanto Setiawan, an internationally recognised Floral arranger, who is the Consultant / Advisor to the Society will be showing new techniques and styles at a demonstration to be held at the venue on the 30th March afternoon.

The way we arrange flowers today has very deep roots in the history of the world. There are two distinct schools of thought when it comes to floral arrangements. Eastern design that comes to us from the Orient and East and Southeast Asia. Western design is the result of a number of influences primarily from European floral designers.oriental Floral design is truly an art form, based on a linear style. It bears no resemblance to the Western design style of combining flowers in masses. The Eastern Design is based on Ikebana, which gets its roots from Japan, which is the art of a floral design that makes the flowers appear as if they are still alive.
