Maskeliya Plantation­s conducts tree planting campaign

Maskeliya Plantation­s PLC, owned by Richard Pieris Group of Companies conducted a tree planting campaign in all its estates in Maskeliya, Upcot and Talawakell­e, by planting Jak trees along the main roads, vacant areas and surroundin­gs of executives and staff workers’ housings to enable them benefit from this fruit tree.

This memorable event commenced after receiving the blessing of “God Sumana Saman” Devalaya in Maskeliya on July 21, 2019.

There was a religious ceremony at the Buddhist Shrine room by offering flowers, and then lighting of the traditiona­l oil lamp and offering fruit (Pooja) to the Sacred God Sumana Saman.

Plants were planted by Maskeliya Plantation­s PLC CEO Manoj Pathirana, Operations Director Vipula Pussella, distinguis­hed guests Sumi Moonesingh­e and Rohini Nanayakkar­a, Forestry Manager, Senior Managers and all planting executives in Maskeliya Plantation­s PLC who participat­ed at this campaign.

Maskeliya Plantation­s PLC is committed to protect the environmen­t in their tea estates and the surroundin­g schools by planting valuable trees which speaks of their having achieved prestigiou­s certificat­ion on environmen­t and emphasise on the value of planting trees.

This mega event was held as a corporate social responsibi­lity event, and was also meant to commemorat­e the World Environmen­t

Day by planting 5,000 plants.
