Sweatn’ before YOUR WEDDING

- BY FAZMINA SAMAT

In case you're planning a nice outdoor garden wedding, or getting married in a historical church in front of selected friends and family, or an extravagant hotel with candles and fairy lights holding a bunch of lilies in hand, every bride wants to look at their finest on their wedding day! As years go by and when you look at the wedding album reminiscing the heartwarming memories of getting married in front of loved ones, slipping into that gorgeous bridal attire and looking into that mirror, glowing like a modern day princess!

Nevertheless, prepping for your wedding days is quite the task! And we – we are not referring to the stress of picking the perfect venue, selecting the correct dress, designing bridesmaid dress or picking the correct song for the first dance. We mean well, when we say that brides emphasise heavily on looking good as well as feeling good in shape! This is why, we have been on the look out for a bridal fitness plan that offers high-quality results, without the hefty price tag. After all, the last thing you want as expenses, (of course, other than paying lump sums of cash on a reception venue, accommodation and bridal accessories) is spend even more money on an exercise regime that you’re not entirely sure will get you feeling fit, healthy and toned before your big day.

This is why we got the help of a bride and dance fit instructor Tarja De Silva to give us the low-down on how to tone up before your wedding, what kind of exercises you need to prioritise, how to maintain a positive eating regime and tips to de-stress.

IF A BRIDE IS PLANNING TO GET TONED FOR HER WEDDING, REALISTICALLY HOW LONG IN ADVANCE SHOULD SHE START WORKING OUT?

Realistically I would advise 3 months ahead but if they can start sooner the results would be more sustainable.

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON AREAS OF THE BODY A BRIDE SHOULD FOCUS ON WORKING OUT?

This really depends on the type of attire the bride is going to wear. depending on the design of the bridal the bride may have to focus on areas that are going to be revealed such as her back, arms or midriff.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS TO FOCUSING ON THESE KEY AREAS?

Firstly understand the goal you are trying to achieve.

Set yourself some realistic targets.

Self discipline and motivation is key.

Eat well and clean to meet your goal because at the end of the day you are what you eat.

IN TERMS OF PREPARING FOR A WEDDING, WHAT TRAINING PLAN WOULD YOU ADVISE A WOMAN TO DO?

A good balanced diet plan would be essential, followed by at-least one hour of daily cardio and an exercise routine that target different muscle groups for every other day of the week. It is also important to keep your skin, hair and nails healthy. Good nutrition will help as well us some beauty routines such as scrubs or vitamin serums. Beyond all these factors a good night's sleep is mandatory (7-8 hours).

IF YOU HAVE 30 MINS TO DO SOME EXERCISE AT ANY GIVEN TIME OF THE DAY, WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE WORKOUT YOU’D ADVISE A FUTURE BRIDE TO DO?

Whether you are a future bride or anyone who wants to lose weight, I would recommend running or skipping alternatively for 30 minutes. Another exercise regime I would suggest is a quick circuit where you will be doing different types of exercises with 10-20 repetitions and short breaks. In my case and if you are someone that likes to dance, dance your heart out to your favourite tunes for 30 minutes non-stop.
