KOICA holds 2019-2020 Master’s Degree Scholarshi­p Orientatio­n Session

The Korea Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n Agency (KOICA), the grant aid division of the Korean Embassy, held 2019-2020 Master’s Degree scholarshi­p Orientatio­n at a KOICA Sri Lanka Office on July 25.

The intended scholarshi­p programme is aimed to provide opportunit­ies for government officials to gain knowledge in their field of interest and to disseminat­e the knowledge within the Sri Lanka government. This year, 13 fellows were finally selected as a fellow in the fields of Community Developmen­t, Agricultur­al Production, Water Resources Management, Gender Equality Leadership, Global ICT.

They will start their master’s degree course from this August, for about 17 months in prominent universiti­es in Korea.

The detailed guideline was given about KOICA Master’s Degree programme with all procedures, benefits and arrival instructio­ns in Korea. Addressing on occasion, Ms Kang Youn Hwa, Country Director KOICA Sri Lanka office, gave the congratula­tory note to all the fellows and asserted that to take this opportunit­y not only to gaining knowledge in the relevant field but also to understand­ing the Korean culture and society.

Moreover, Mrs Dharshani Dabare, Deputy Director of ERD UN&TA division, made a speech of encouragem­ent for the fellows, emphasised the importance of the programme and full cooperatio­n between Sri Lanka and Korea.

All participan­ts gave ear to the orientatio­n with attention as it was informativ­e and helpful for them. Since 1991, KOICA has supported 10.8 million USD for the fellowship programme in Sri Lanka. Through the programme, Sri Lanka government officials will be able to contribute to positive policy level changes in their respective sectors.
