NO DIFFERENCE IN TWO MAIN CAMPS: ANURA

- BY AJITH SIRIWARDANA

While claiming that there was no difference in the two main camps, National Peoples’ Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday people should vote to form a peoples’ government at the November 16 election.

Speaking at a rally held in Kurunegala he said even though people voted to elect a new government in 2015, the same people who were in the Rajapaksa government held portfolios in it.

“People did not elect a new government

in 2015. 53 MPS who were in the Rajapaksa government were appointed as ministers and deputy ministers in the Maithri-ranil government as well. People have elected the same government. Ministers like S. B. Dissanayake, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Duminda Dissanayake and Dayasiri Jayasekara were ministers in both Rajapaksa and Maithri-ranil government,” he said.

Mr. Dissanayake said it was hilarious to note that former ministers were applauding when Mahinda Rajapaksa was criticizing the present government at the Anuradhapura rally. “When Mahinda Rajapaksa was saying that the present government had destroyed the agriculture, Duminda Dissanayake, who was the agricultural minister, was seen applauding his views. When he said the transport was destroyed, former transport minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was approving his views. These are not two camps. It is one and the same,” he said. He said if the people were to elect a Gotabaya Rajapaksa government, there would not be any difference as the same people like S. B. Dissanayake, Duminda Dissanayake and Dayasiri Jayasekara would be ministers in that government too. He stressed that the people should elect a government of their own in 2019.
