SEP to bring solace to future crisis

- BY THISARI ANDRIA WALAWEGE

“The only way to stand tall against the future political and economical crisis is to stand as our own revolutionary party,” presidential candidate of the Socialist Equality Party (SEP) Pani Wijesiriwardena said, addressing the labour force of the country. He said this at a media conference held in Colombo Public Library auditorium yesterday while launching his presidential election campaign.

Mr. Wijesiriwardena said in order to protect the democratic and social rights of workers and the poor, the capitalist system which is prevailing in the country should be eradicated.

“In this context SEP fights for a government of the labour force and we wish to nationalise institutions such as banks, insurance companies, hospitals, etc and operate them under the control of the labour force,” he said. Moreover, a third nuclear world war is imminent threat and SEP has a policy to prevent it, he added.

“We focus on taking actions to uplift national and international socialism which is the only philosophy which address the issues faced by the working class of the country. We believe that the problem lies in the inequality in distribution of resources and not the lack of resources. The other capitalist parties such as UNP, SLPP, JVP and pseudoleft parties are making false and impractical promises. SEP is the only party which truly stands to protect the rights of the workers and the poor,” Mr. Wijesiriwardena said. The SEP election meetings will focus on these important political issues confronting workers and the poor. We urge workers, youth and intellectuals to attend our meetings and engage in this important discussion, he said.
