CHEF BUN BOON HOE
An invitation from the Resident Manager of the Shangri-la, Giordano Faggioli to introduce Chef Bun Boon and the unveiling of his new menu at the Shang Palace, was one I happily accepted. Shang Palace is one of my favourite restaurants in the city and after hearing the wonders of Chef Bun Boon I knew I would be assured of a great evening of culinary expertise by this very artistic Chef.
Chef Bun Boon’s culinary journey spans nearly three decades across Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, during which time he has also been curating concepts at famed restaurants within Shangri-la’s hotels and resorts. Drawn by the desire to cook from a young age, Chef Bun Boon is devoted to truly authentic Chinese cuisine using age-old recipes and cooking techniques passed down through generations. Over the years he has explored a tapestry of flavours from varied regions of China and mastered his craft along the way.
It was a memorable evening where we enjoyed some delicious and artistically prepared food, a delight to one’s palate. Sampling over twelve items of food prepared by this chef was enjoyed by all at the table. All the dishes presented were of diversified colour, meant to arouse peoples’ appetites, and aromatic flavours and tasted excellent. As far as I know, no other Chinese restaurant in Colombo serves such an array of delicious tasty food. This restaurant is certainly a winner and for anyone who enjoys a great culinary journey, this is a must.
