With a wealth of knowledge in fashion design and eventually venturing out with her own brands, Yasisurie Kiribandara is an exception to conventional norms. Experimenting her own creativity from time to time, Yasisurie has been able to produce some fine pieces for her clients. Ending a short dormant period, Yasisurie is back with some exciting plans in her career. “I was in a quest to find myself,” she said in an interview with Daily Mirror Life. “So I re-evaluated myself and did a rebranding of my ventures.”

It has been her passion to make a difference in the industry ; in fact, to be the change in an industry that values money more than one's creativity. As the brainchild of the Couture Fashion Training Centre SL, Yasisurie has now introduced a two year, full time Diploma in Couture Fashion Design.

“This is apart from the Couture and Bridal design businesses I'm doing,” she continued. “Students get to train with me once or twice a week and they get a fully hands-on experience. Even lecturers are being trained by me. This way it's easy to teach them what you want, the way you want. Those after O/LS and those with a sense of creativity in them can apply for it. Right now I have a small group of students and will have two groups at a time.but will look at expanding in future. We also have an online education platform for overseas students where they have an online tutorial session. They study over the weekends and are doing a Couture Embroidery Course as well.”

With a reasonable course fee, students even have the option of applying for scholarships or paying their course fees through various instalment options. For Yasisurie it's not just a business but it's about doing something Colombo hasn't seen yet. Yasisurie always gives attention to detail and is all about doing quality work.

As such, she works with both local and international clients and knows what suits these markets best. This is her third business venture and she believes that it would help those who want to be fashion designers on a professional level. She was among the top 100 participants at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit held in Silicon Valley, USA in 2016.

During that time she was working with women in low income households and was training them to sew high end garments. Today she trains those who don't have any background in fashion designing as means of empowering them to test their skills and make a living in the long term. Adding more excitement to her pieces, Yasisurie has also started experimenting with colours.

“When you go through a dark tunnel, you see light at the end of it,” she added. “Now I'm experimenting more with batik, laser cutting and keen on adding more structure. I have proven to myself that I could do better and am confident that this new venture will help others as well as help me share my knowledge. After all it's a blessing.”
