DIMO conducts Mahindra Tractor Service Camp

-

Offering a helping hand to Sri Lanka’s vital farming community, the Agri Machinery Division of Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) conducted a Mahindra Tractor Service Camp (Mahindra Tractor ‘Seva Kandavura’), which provided all services free of charge across the island.

Aptly tagged, ‘Kanne Godayanna – Danma Ready Wenna’, the service camp provided tractor owners and the farming community an opportunity to have their Mahindra tractors serviced and ready for the upcoming planting season.

The company also conducted medical camps for farmers alongside the tractor service camp. The Agri Machinery Division of DIMO has been the sole distributor for Mahindra tractors in Sri Lanka for 30 years.

“This initiative is part and parcel of our larger effort to purposefully impact Sri Lanka’s vital communities and sustainable progress of the economy. The farming community relies heavily on Mahindra tractors to prepare their paddy fields for planting. While some farmers possess tractors, a larger segment rent out tractors to prepare soil for planting paddy seedlings. During the heavywork season, high demand Mahindra tractors use up approximately 300 to 400 work hours.

Hence, it is important to service the tractors beforehand in preparation for the demanding work schedules. Servicing heavy machinery is an exact science and requires specialised knowledge. As we already possess the required expertise, we were pleased to offer our services free of charge for the benefit of the farming community,” commented DIMO Agri Machinery Sales Department GM Amila de Silva.

The company decided on the timeline of the service camp based on the planting weather forecasts released by the Rice Research and Development Institute (RRDI).

The campaign lasted 35 days covering 105 selected locations islandwide, in which over 1,800 tractors were serviced. The Agri Machinery Division of DIMO provided the services of over 10 qualified technicians and assistants at each location.

Farmers who visited each location were able to access qualified medical professionals to have their health and fitness levels assessed professionally. The physicians at the medical camps facilitated various tests, including blood-sugar, blood-pressure and provided appropriate prescriptions.

“The service camp was part of the sustainable exercise of the Agri Machinery Division of DIMO. We were humbled to be able to provide a truly valuable and timely service to the nation’s farming community,” commented DIMO Retail Cluster COO Viranga Wickramaratne.

Fuelled by the company’s sustainable business approach and integrity of service, DIMO has been able to reach out and nurture robust relations with the Sri Lankan farming community with Mahindra tractors and the rest of the farming machinery product portfolio.
