MY POLICY IS TO GIVE PROMINENCE TO BUDDHISM AND PROTECT UNITARY STATUS: SAJITH

- BY AJITH SIRIWARDANA

New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa said yesterday his policy was to give prominence to Buddhism and to protect the unitary status of the country.

I don’t think there is much difference in the policies of JHU and the UNP

Speaking at the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) special convention held at the Campbell Park in Borella he said there were no major differences in the policies of JHU and the United National Party (UNP).

“Policies of the JHU are to give prominence to Buddhism and to protect the unitary status of the country. My policies are the same. I don’t think there is much difference in the policies of JHU and the UNP,” he said.

He said the contribution made by the JHU as a political party to safeguard the unitary status, sovereignty and political freedom of the country, was commendable.

“The contribution made by the JHU to gain war victory was commendable. Even after a decade since the war has ended, the country has had to face numerous challenges in political, economic and security sectors,” he said.

Mr. Premadasa said people should decide whether to hand over the country to a family dynasty or march forward as a new country.

“We need to go forward as a new country with modern technology and information technology. We will create a new era in governance after the victory at the presidential election. We will give priority to skill and talent,” he said.

He stressed that people should not allow a single family to decide on the national agenda of the country.
