Sri Lanka U-19 Team leaves for Bangladesh today
The 16-member Sri Lanka Under-19 Squad will leave for Bangladesh today. The side will play two 4-Day Youth Tests against the Bangladesh starting from October 26 before engaging in five Youth ODIS thereafter.
The squad for the Youth ODI series will see as many as eight changes from the 4-Day Squad.
Nipun Dananjaya of St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa will lead the side for the entirety of the tour.
This series will be the first of three outbound tours that the Sri Lanka Youth Team will make in the coming months; with a tour to the West Indies scheduled for later in the year, followed by the ICC Youth World Cup in South Africa in January 2020.
All players named for the upcoming series with Bangladesh are eligible to play in next year’s Youth World Cup.
Notable absentees from the named squads are Kamil Mishara, Ahan Wickramasinghe and Ashian Daniel who have been suspended for this tour on disciplinary grounds.
Speaking on the matter, Team Manager Farveez Maharoof said, “The three players have been suspended for the tour of Bangladesh, (however) they will be eligible for selection come the West Indies tour and the (Youth) World Cup.”
Meanwhile, Captain Nipun Dananjaya said, “We have been training for this series for the last month and in addition, we also participated in the MCA (Premier League) Tournament which was a great experience for us.”
“This tour is a good opportunity for us to correct any faults we have and move ahead on our journey towards the (Youth) World Cup.”
