The polling cards for the 2019 presidential election would be distributed by post from today, the Deputy Postmaster General (Operations) D.A.R.K. Ranasinghe said.

Relevant date stamps would be placed on those polling cards and will send to the registered addresses of the voters

He said the polling cards were handed over to the postal offices by the respective District Secretariats yesterday.

“Relevant date stamps would be placed on those polling cards and will send to the registered addresses of the voters,” he said.

Mr. Ranasinghe said, the distribution of polling cards will continue until November 9.

He said November 3 would be a special delivery day for the polling cards for those who do not receive their cards by post.

The Deputy PMG requested voters who had not received their polling cards to stay indoors to receive their cards and said some 8,000 personnel had been assigned for the delivery of the polling cards.

He said eligible voters who had not received their polling cards by the November 9, may proceed to the nearest postal office with reference to the residential address listed in the 2018 electoral register and obtain their cards after proving their identity.

They should do so between November 11 and November 16.

“The marking of postal ballots will take place between October 31 and November 16, at the state institutions. Those employed at Divisional Secretariats, Election Offices and the Police will mark postal ballots on the November 4,” the Deputy PMG said.

He said those unable to cast their postal vote on the said dates would be granted another opportunity to do so on November 7, at an election office in the vicinity of their places of employment.
