Graduate teachers for foreign languages to be recruited: Edu. Ministry
The government had approved the cabinet paper for the recruitment of graduate teachers to teach foreign languages in Government schools, the Education Ministry said.
Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had presented the cabinet paper in this regard considering Sri Lanka’s economical prominence and global economic developments.
“Expansion of opportunities to learn foreign languages within the school education system, promotion of learning foreign languages in the school curriculum, increasing the number of schools teaching foreign languages, providing opportunities for effective use of language laboratories which are already established in schools, providing tertiary education opportunities for study of languages are some of the objectives of this programme,” the ministry said.
They said the Department of Management Services has approved the recruitment of 729 teachers to teach in foreign language schools. These graduate Teachers will be assigned to Grades 10-11 and Advanced Level at the National Schools which are currently teaching foreign languages and the proposed National Schools for Foreign Language Teaching.
This is the first time graduate teachers will be recruited to teach French, German, Hindi, Japanese, and Arabic and Korean within the school curriculum, the Ministry said.
