Organises event to promote economic diplomacy with South India

Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commission in Chennai, as part of their ‘Economic Diplomacy Promotion of Sri Lanka in Southern India’ organised an event in Hyderabad on October 23 in associatio­n with the Federation of Telangana Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FTCCI), a statement said.

At the seminar on ‘Trade and Investment opportunit­ies in Sri Lanka’ organized by the FTCCI, Deputy High Commission­er V. Krishnamoo­rthy, highlighte­d the potential opportunit­ies available in Sri Lanka and said that both sides could jointly engage in projects in IT and the pharmaceut­ical sector as Hyderabad was a major hub for these two sectors in Southern India. Minister (Commercial) Yasantha de Silva, made a detailed presentati­on on trade and investment opportunit­ies available in Sri Lanka for the Telangana entreprene­urs. More than 75 FTCCI members participat­ed at the event and have shown their interest to do business with Sri Lanka.

The Deputy High Commission­er was also invited as the Guest of Honour of the “Accelerate 2” programme organized by the Global EXIM Institute in Hyderabad on October 24 . He stated that Sri Lanka and India have maintained and continue to maintain a longlastin­g bilateral relationsh­ip in all spheres and that the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai will facilitate any work related to strengthen­ing economic diplomacy between the two countries. The 150 participan­ts at this event were also given a detailed insight on trade and investment opportunit­ies available in Sri Lanka.

On 25 October, Deputy High Commission­er Krishnamoo­rthy and Minister (Commercial) Yasantha de Silva also met with Director Confederat­ion of Indian Industry (CII) - Hyderabad Chapter, Senior Vice President - Federation of Telangana Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Director - Federation of Indian Export Organizati­on and Director- Q-mart Super Market and discussed the expansion of trade and investment between the two countries.
