SUCHINTHA’S SUCCESS STORY

A model worth following

-

“People involved in every profession are passionate about what they do. That is what we lack here in Sri Lanka. Even a lorry driver works with passion. We must learn to love what we do; learn to love human beings.” I like the way things operate in Italy, the people’s approach and how human beings are being respected

Determination, hard work and commitment are key traits that one should possess if he or she intends to succeed in any sphere, including life. Though many people have dreams, half way through they get knocked down due to various obstacles. Dr. Suchintha Fernando who was a banker in Sri Lanka, took the biggest risk in life several years ago and decided to migrate to Italy to realise his dreams. “My wife was then living in Italy. So I gave up my bank job in Sri Lanka and decided to lead a happy life together with her in Italy. But it was not as easy as I imagined. It was ineed a tough ask. I did not get a white collar job there, largely because I was alien to their culture, language and other factors. I had to earn money doing odd jobs, but I was determined to realize my dream some day, because I had utmost confidence in myself,” said Suchintha who today owns a few companies in Italy and has branches in Sri Lanka. He is opening a new branch office in Negombo today too. “I studied the language, sat for banking exams there and secured a bank manager’s job in Italy. I always believe that there is away if you have a will. I am a strong believer in Divine blessings too. “I like the way things operate in Italy, the people’s approach and how human beings are being respected. It’s a passion for them. People involved in every profession are passionate about what they do. That is what we lack here in Sri Lanka. Even a lorry driver works with passion. We must learn to love what we do; we must learn to love human beings. That is why the quality of life is improved in such countries. Here in Sri Lanka I know people who don’t even make their bed when they wake up in the morning, but by afternoon they make a huge cry on Facebook campaigning to make a better country. This is the reality. There is no guidance. Our lifestyle there is tough. Sun or rain is no excuse there. I think the entire South Asian region is hit by this flaw. I feel schools in Sri Lanka should teach the art of social living and not social studies. This is an urgent and vital need if we are to develop Sri Lanka. There is no professional difference in Italy. Every profession gets equal respect,” said Suchintha, the Jospeh Vaz College old boy who is a successful businessman today.
