GOTA WILL LOOK INTO THE DISABLED AND WIDOWS AS WELL: BASIL

The SLPP National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa was on tour in The Eastern Province. Mr. Basil Rajapaksa speaking at a rally at Sainthamar­uthu in Batticaloa on Monday. Said SLPP presidenti­al candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa would create an environmen­t conducive for the disabled and widowed persons.

He said, that he was aware that a majority of people in this region depended on farming and fishing. He also, said

that he was aware that a considerab­le part of the population were disabled and some were widows.

He said that he was confident that Gotabaya Rajapaksa would fulfill the responsibi­lity of ensuring an environmen­t

favourable to all of them after the 17th of November.”

He said they will create an atmosphere where all communitie­s can live in harmony and said the incumbent government has distanced communitie­s from each other instead of establishi­ng reconcilia­tion. Mr.rajapaksa said anyone visiting Sainthamar­uthu could see how harsh the living conditions are in the area. “Not only that, you are suffering from the wild elephant issue and in need of a bridge. We were able to implement some developmen­t projects in the East but there is more left to be done,” he said.

Sainthamar­uthu Mosque’s Chief Y.M. Haneefa also made a speech at the event which was attended by MPS Wimalaweer­a Dissanayak­e, Sriyani Wijewickra­ma and elected representa­tives of Sainthamar­uthu.

Mr. Haneefa highlighte­d the importance of the contributi­on by the Muslim community at the presidenti­al election to ensure Gotabaya’s victory. “He is the only leader who can ensure that all communitie­s can live together in genuine reconcilia­tion,” he said.
