Wiley opens world-class technology centre in Colombo

John Wiley & Sons, Inc., a global leader in research and education, announced the official opening of a world-class technology centre in Colombo, Sri Lanka on November 4, 2019.

This centre marks the latest addition to Wiley’s technology organisati­on and reflects the company’s strategic focus on its digital transforma­tion and delivering innovative services and products to its publishing, research and education partners and customers.

“At Wiley, we are harnessing cutting edge technology including data and analytics to provide powerful adaptive and experienti­al learning platforms, as well as machine learning and artificial intelligen­ce in order to transform and drive our business forward,” said John Wiley & Sons EVP and Chief Technology Officer Aref Matin. “The addition of this state-of-the-art technology centre in Colombo further elevates our commitment to innovate content, tools and services to meet our global customers’ current and future needs.”

Wiley has been operating a temporary location in Colombo for the past six months. Beginning today, 200 high-end product engineerin­g and technology operations employees will move into the iconic “MAGA ONE” building, with plans for further growth in 2020.

“It has been an exciting journey to build an unparallel­ed technology team in Colombo from the ground up,” said Wiley Global Technologi­es (Pvt.) Ltd General Manager Bimal Gunapala. “I’m immensely proud of what we have created here, though our work is certainly just beginning. We look forward to delivering on Wiley’s mission to empower researcher­s, learners, universiti­es and corporatio­ns around the world.”

Wiley sources top-tier technical teams, providing ample opportunit­ies to allow Sri Lankan technophil­es and researcher­s to hone their skills through working with the global elite in the education and research arena. The company’s presence in Sri Lanka continues to create a platform for Sri Lankan profession­als to enrich their knowledge and insights into the latest trends in a multitude of areas including artificial intelligen­ce and machine learning.
