2 Men and a Woman arrested for extortion

Two young men had entered a hotel and extorted Rs.200,000 from an individual who was in a room with a woman whom he had befriended in town on that day. The woman and the man who were found in the hotel were from two areas in Chilaw.

The man a father of two children had met the women concerned in Chilaw town had fallen in love with her.

Later they had checked in to a popular hotel in Chilaw town and were in a compromisi­ng position when two men had suddenly entered the room and demanded Rs.200,000/= from him by threatenin­g to divulge the incident to his wife and children if he failed to pay them.

The man had then paid them Rs.200,000 to escape the situation and left the hotel immediatel­y.

He had then related his ordeal to one of his friends who explained to him that he had fallen prey to a organised racket and prompted him to report the incident to the Chilaw Police.

The Police initiated an investigat­ions based on the man’s complaint arrested the suspected woman and the two men .

On further questionin­g they found that the woman and the two men had been carrying on the racket for some time.

The woman would approach & entice wealthy men to spend the day with her at a hotel & get her accomplice­s to extort money from the unsuspecti­ng victims who fell prey to her advances.

The OIC Chilaw Police CI Seneviratn­e Edirisingh­e, OIC Crime Investigas­tion Branch Amila Ratnayake , SI Dilruk, and Sergeant 29727 Ranjith are conducting further investigat­ions.
