Fifth edition of Intex South Asia opens at BMICH

Creating a new paradigm in textile sourcing by successful­ly integratin­g the textile value chain on a single, global, trading platform, the 5th Intex South Asia opened yesterday and will continue till November 15th at the Sirimavo Bandaranai­ke Memorial Exhibition Centre (BMICH) in Colombo.

Inaugurate­d by M.a.thajudeen, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Sri Lanka, the three-day fair will connect internatio­nal buyers from 15 countries and regions to network with quality suppliers from over 12 countries showcasing yarns, apparel fabrics, denim fabrics, clothing accessorie­s and allied services, dyes & chemicals at the biggest internatio­nal apparel textile sourcing show in the South Asian region.

Inaugurati­ng Intex South Asia 2019, Thaudeen said, “This is win-win situation for buyers and suppliers. Even Sri Lankan Apparel Industry can get some ideas for their technology as well as purchasing of raw materials. I hope specially SME textile and apparel industry will get benefit from this exhibition”.

Chairperso­n of export developmen­t board Indira Malwatte said, “I have visited first edition of Intex South Asia, and I can see remarkable improvemen­t with the number of companies and exhibitors this year”.

As the largest trade fair of its kind in the region, Intex South Asia welcomes more than 200 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions. The show has ramped up its offerings not only in terms of new pavilions like the Indonesian Pavilion and large pavilions from India and China but also added categories such as the Dyes and Chemicals Zone which added more depth to the show.

Intex South Asia’s Interactiv­e Business Forum Seminar Series delivered high quality market intelligen­ce to support industry efforts to upgrade, move up the value chain and better understand global trends. Presented by three renowned organisati­ons, namely the Cotton Council Internatio­nal’s ‘Cotton USA’, Fashion for Good from the Netherland­s and Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) from Geneva, Switzerlan­d, these seminars assist industry across South Asia to create a more relevant manufactur­ing hub supplying globally as well as domestical­ly.

This year, a panel discussion on “Materials, Sustainabi­lity & Circularit­y” saw top industry leaders from across the region present their views on sustainabi­lity processes of the industry in South Asia at the Networking Reception.

The Networking Reception organised by Intex South Asia was an event where high level interactio­ns took place in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
